This was our 4th job with Berni Platko of Platko Enterprises and our most ambitious. We wanted to have our 100-year-old home in Dilworth completely gutted and remodeled. We only had 6 months in a rental home, so we had to be sure our timeline was on target—and, we moved back in 5 ½ months after the job started. Overall, we had a great experience. Berni was up-front with issues, anticipated many of our cost increases (either due to engineering issues or product choices of our own), and communicated with us daily. We felt very involved in the day-to-day aspects of the project, so there were very few crises or surprises. Our home is now exactly how we imagined it would be, and those who visit us are struck by its beauty and the incredible details that make it still feel very historic. We always recommend Berni to others, though we do preface it by saying that remodeling is not for the faint of heart. You must anticipate cost increases, structural issues, product delays, etc…. But, if you get a good contractor that you are willing to really partner with, the end result will be worth it. Our home is so stunning, we’ve been asked to show it on the Dilworth Home Tour in the next few years. What a compliment!
